After graduating from Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Contiguglia-Akcan came to Miami to complete her Family Medicine residency at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. She has also attained a certification in Travel Medicine, which is awarded by the International Society of Travel Medicine. At FIU Health, she provides primary care and travel health services, and teaches clinical skills to medical students. She is a member of the FIU-FAST Team and an affiliate of the FIU Center for Women’s and Gender Studies. She is also a mother to two beautiful children and wife to a loving husband.

Dr. Marty heads the FIU Health Travel Medicine Program. She is a professor of infectious diseases at the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine with over 30 years experience in the practice of medicine. Marty served 25 years in the U.S. Navy specializing in tropical medicine, infectious disease pathology, disaster medicine, and the science, medical response and policy involving chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction. She has worked with the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, United Nations and has personally visited 50 countries.
