The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine’s Faculty Group Practice continues to expand, adding convenience and benefits for our university community. Since 2011, FIU Health physicians and staff have been sharing their wealth of experience and commitment to providing state-of-the-art, comprehensive care to their patients at the Modesto Maidique Campus. In November 2012, FIU Health opened a second group practice in association with Broward Health.

Now, as a way to continue to expand its reach to patients in northern Miami-Dade and Broward, FIU Health will begin to offer primary care/family medicine services at its Faculty Group Practice – Broward location effective April 17. With the addition of Sandra Sarmiento, MD, a family medicine physician who currently provides service at the Modesto Maidique Campus, patients ages 13 and older will be able to receive preventive health maintenance and general care through routine physicals and well-care visits;  chronic disease management and screenings (for diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, obesity, high cholesterol and depression); and acute care (for injuries, fever, nausea/vomiting, urinary tract infections, sprains, ear aches, headaches and rash or other skin abnormality). On site diagnostics (electrocardiograms (EKGs)) and laboratory services will also be available.

Primary care/family medicine appointments with Dr. Sarmiento will be available on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, during regular office hours which are

• Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Broward practice will also continue to provide outpatient psychiatric services for children, adolescents and adults by psychiatrists and clinicians from the HWCOM Department of Psychiatry.

The FIU Health Faculty Group Practice – Broward is located on the campus of Broward Health Medical Center at 1600 S. Andrews Avenue, West Wing Suite 1090 in Fort Lauderdale.
