Gynecology is a specialty field which focuses on the female reproductive organs in their pregnant and non-pregnant state, respectively. OBGYNs are both medical doctors and surgeons and as such provide comprehensive reproductive health care for women. This includes prenatal care through delivery and the post-partum; well woman care (annual check-ups and screenings, preventative care, family planning); diagnostic procedures such as colposcopy, cryotherapy, and LEEP procedures; ultrasound and gynecologic surgery (including minimally invasive procedures). Some specialists trained as OBGYNs do both gynecology and obstetrics while others specialize only in gynecology.
